Going my own way.

After many years of creating for others I’m looking forward to making things in my own vision. Rallying excitement for my newly minted 40s to kick off with a sense of freedom and flow while tickling my tech brain’s need for iterative design. (Where my UX baddies at?! 👩🏽‍💻) I’m also looking forward to sharing ootd pics, latest reads and playlists that resonate with the creative ritmos of the week. Delivered sometimes-weekly. (keeping it low presh.)

Some things I’m excited to share here:

  • Parenting at different stages – as a 40 yr old afro-latina mami of three; 2, 11, and a 17 year old.
  • Rituals, routines and what’s inspiring my creativities this week.
  • Music – a weekly spotify list of tunes I’d love to talk about, the eclectic, transcendent and ratchet varieties.
  • Fashion – mid-size, ootd pics, daily wear as a working, crunchy granola mom with a hip hop meets art teacher aesthetic.
  • Artsy fartsy stuff, design tings, and doodles by moi and friends.
  • Occasionally, thoughts on corporate work-life imbalance.

Y tu, quien eres!? [Who is you?]

Me llamo Virgen. Afro-Cuban mami, recovering serial monetizer and multimedia designer. Like many of my peers I dipped from posting on social media, paused community building efforts and went digitally dark for most of 2024. Call it burnout, capitalism, collective grief – all of it sucked me dry of my creativities.

My last venture, though slowly but surely scaling, had to be put on pause as I became a new sharecropper in the corporate fields—trading my independence to provide familial sustenance and keep up with my monthly nuuly habit. So there’s that too.

Feeding the share-monster, indefinitely.

So, why am I here now? Short answer is because the share-monster makes it so. The tldr version is, I’m trying to find my creative ritmo again. One that’s not fueled by capitalism, and the marketing and sales funnels that come with self-promotion. I know some of that is unavoidable. Shit, I’m writing this here because I would ultimately want it to lead somewhere.
